Mole Day Cupcakes

Happy Mole Day everyone!
In honor of this nerdy holiday(and I say this with the utmost of love and affection, some of my best friends are chemistry nerds) I gathered in my kitchen with some dedicated chemistry students to create a cupcake periodic table.  In case, like me,  you haven't looked at a periodic table recently, that's 118 cupcakes!  We made quite a mess, but it was lots of fun.
To add to the fun, the students will be selling them for a penny per proton.  I guess that means that the hydrogen and helium will go first.  Unless you want to live on the wild side and buy an arsenic cupcake.

Hope you find a fun way to celebrate Mole Day!

Cream Cheese Buttercream(and my first cake in my new kitchen!)

Fall is in the air and it makes me feel like baking.  Thankfully, I finally have a kitchen to bake in!  Along with our move this summer came remodeling.  My kitchen was our first priority, but boy did it take a long time.  We're DIYers so I have been busily building our new kitchen with my husband, instead of making cakes or blogging.

Here's my very first cake made in my new kitchen!

I made this cake for a little get together at our new house.  It's chocolate\chocolate on the bottom tier and pumpkin\cream cheese on the top(pumpkin) tier.  Last time I made pumpkin cakes I had a little trouble with the frosting and promised to work on the recipe and let you know if it got better.  I'm happy to say that this frosting crusted nicely and was even paintable!  All the recipe needed was more powdered sugar.  It's amazing how much powdered sugar can be absorbed by cream cheese.  Here's the recipe:
