March Madness Basketball Cookies

We had a little bit of our own march madness at my house the other day.  My son's basketball team had their end of the season tournament so I made these basketball cookies for them.  They are so easy to make, I only took two pictures!  Seriously, they are that easy!
Using thinned glace` icing in black, I free hand piped the outlines for the basketballs.  Since they are simple sweeping lines, this step goes very fast!  I used a Wilton tip #3.  Let these dry for awhile.  I didn't time it, but I would guess that I waited 30 minutes or so.  It has been very dry here lately.  If it is humid where you live it could take longer.
The orange icing is achieved by adding orange food color and just a touch of brown.   When I flood large areas like these I like to put the icing in a disposable, plastic, piping bag without a tip or coupler.  Then I just snip off the end with scissors when I'm ready to decorate.  After flooding is complete, you'll want to let these dry for about 24 hours before bagging or stacking.

I hope you'll enjoy making these for you're basketball star!
