Let me just say right from the get go that I am not a big supporter of the whole icing image thing. In terms of cake decorating, it's just not very creative to slap an image on a cake and call it done. However...I have recently decided that if it is incorporated as only part of an overall cake design, it just might have it's uses.
Take these cub scout badges...I knew I wanted them incorporated in my cub scout cake. I had a few options on how to create them. I could make a buttercream transfer. I could paint on fondant. In the end I chose the icing image because I felt that the detail would be so much better than the other options.
I have to say that I was very pleased with the image quality of the transfers and the ease of application. So while icing images are not a substitute for good cake decorating skills, they can sometimes have their place in a good cake design.
What do you think? Have you ever used icing images? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comment section.
