Mini Purse Cake

I have been wanting to make a small purse cake for the longest time.  There's really not much demand for a cake like this at my house.  It's super girly and I have all boys.  I would have loved a cake like this when I was a little girl...I love a cake like this now.  Good news is that even though my boys don't have much use for a purse cake, they still like to eat it.  Let me show you how I did it.

My Tip For a Bright Marble Cake (Works For Me Wednesday)

To make a perfectly bright marble cake you need egg whites.  Start with a vanilla cake recipe such as this one, my favorite, and use only egg whites instead of whole eggs.  You can convert just about any vanilla cake recipe by using two egg whites instead of the whole egg.  If you want to go super white, you can also use clear vanilla.  This gives you a bright white batter to start with.

Lotus Blossom Cupcakes

Ya know, spring is coming.  Yes, I'm aware that it's still below freezing outside and there's even snow still on the ground, but I keep thinking about spring.  Some day, hopefully soon, the snow will recede and the little plants that have been patiently waiting all winter will burst from the ground with beautiful colors.  Until then, what do you think about making some flowers of our own.

These flowers were so easy to make.

New Printables Are Now Available!

By special request I have created some more printable recipes for you.  When I originally posted these recipes I had no idea how to attach a printable version.  Now that I've learned how to add this nifty gadget, I've gone back and added the printable to a few of the most popular recipes.  Here are the links.

My Favorite Frosting

Peanut Butter Frosting

In time I hope to retro fit all my recipes with a printable.  If there is a specific recipe that you would like to see as a printable, let me know and I'll move it to the top of my list.

Stylish Blogger Award

I am very honored to have recently received this Stylish Blogger Award from a fellow blogger at Can't Stop Baking.  If you have never seen her site you have to go check it out.  Don't miss her Sesame Teriyaki Chicken recipe, it's awesome.

Here's how the award works:
  1. Make a post and thank and link back to the person who awarded you this award!
  2. Share 7 things about yourself!
  3. Award 15 recently discovered great bloggers so we can share the love!
  4. Contact these bloggers and tell them they've won!
Here is my list:

1. I grew up in the Southwest and now live in New England.  You never know where life will take you.
2. I check my email WAY too often.
3. I have laundry on my couch that is waiting to be folded.
4. I once ran a half-marathon.  That's 13 miles.
5. I made pottery before I had kids.  Maybe some day I'll get back to it.
6. In addition to making desserts, I also love to make bread.
7. It took me way too long to come up with this list.

I would like to pass this award on to:

1. Life as I Know it - Love to read her blog!  She takes the everyday parts of life and makes them entertaining.
2. Many White Bowls - She makes absolutely beautiful cakes!
3. What Megan's Making - Lots of recipes that are shared with love.
4. Liv for Cake - You've got to look at her sheep cake!
5. Bake at 350 - Fabulous cookies as far as the eye can see.
6. Sweetopia - More fabulous cookies.
7. Jessicakes - Cakes to die for.
8. Confessions of a Tart - I could eat her chocolate frosting by the spoonful.

Yes, I know, that's not 15.  I went for quality instead of quantity.

Thanks again, Can't Stop Baking.

DIY Cookie Stamp and Peanut Butter Cookies (Works For Me Wednesday)

You cannot find a Valentine's Day treat easier than this!

I could eat at least a whole dozen peanut butter cookies all by myself.  I came up with a way to make a decorative peanut butter cookie that is super easy.  Instead of using a fork to make the traditional hatch marks, I made a heart stamp.  All it takes is a hot glue gun and a smooth bottomed glass.
