My Sister's First Decorated Cake

Y'all are in for a treat!

A few months ago my sister wanted to make her daughter a cute birthday cake.  Now my sister is a fabulous baker.  She makes delicious things all the time, but she had never decorated a cake...until now!

I would have loved to run right over to her house and give her a crash course in cake decorating, but we live too far away for that.  We had to make due with email and phone calls.  She was very nervous about making this cake.  She was afraid that it wouldn't turn out and that she would be embarrassed at the party.

This is what she made!!
I was so very impressed.  I can assure you that my first cake did not look anywhere near this good.(but that's a post for another day.)  This cake is beautiful!

The butterflies are made with the run sugar technique.  Some call it color flow.  It uses the same icing as the glace icing used here.  I'll show you how she made them sometime soon.

Now if the outside of the cake was not impressive enough, look at this.

My sister said this picture was not good enough to put on here, but I didn't listen.  When she cut the cake she hadn't planned on me putting the picture on the Internet.  She used a special pan set to make the inside of the cake into a checkerboard.  I think it looks so cool!

Thanks, sis, for letting me share your talents with everyone.  I can't wait to see what you make next time.
