Turntables are wonderful. I use mine every time I make a cake. In fact, using a turntable greatly improved my frosting application. If you go looking for a cake turntable, you will find that they can be rather expensive. You can purchase a small turntable for about $11.00. Well, that's not very expensive, but in this price range they are pretty flimsy. I wouldn't want to put a heavy three tiers or more on one of these. Then the price jumps to $55 and up. I'm sure that in the $55 and up range they are very sturdy and should last a long time. I just didn't want to spend that much for a sturdy turntable. This is my solution.
I found this wooden lazy Susan that I just love. It is very sturdy. That thick wooden surface isn't going anywhere, even with a heavy cake on top.
I put a layer of the squishy shelf liner on it to keep the cake plate or board from sliding around. Works great! The shelf liner also works great when you are transporting a cake. It keeps your cake from sliding around in the vehicle. The best part about this lazy Susan is that it cost less than $10! Yes, that's right, I'm a bargain shopper.
A. Poet liked my bargain shopping as well and was inspired to write a new poem for the
poetry corner. Hope you enjoy it.
Happy Caking!

This is an awesome idea given how much money one can save. I have also seen a turntable used for cake decorating and can verify that it works quite well!
ReplyDeleteA perfect solution and easy to keep clean and food safe. I have been using a plastic one designed for a cabinet shelf but will be switching to wood for the next cake. (I have some that we used to use under small TVs.)
ReplyDeleteI just found one on ebay for 7 bucks...thanks for the tip!=)
